The concentrated efforts of all NBC Camps staff to provide superior sports training and life skills, has been an abiding philosophy for nearly 40 years. The fact we have touched more than 200,000 youth is a tribute to NBC Camps President and Founder, Fred Crowell. In 1972, NBC Camps launched its first basketball camp, in which 108 boys attended. That same year, a landmark civil rights legislation was enacted that banned sex discrimination in U.S. schools, both in academic subjects and in athletics. This was popularly known as “Title IX.” Although this legislation did not have any authority over independent organizations, NBC Camps, has clearly emerged as a longstanding proponent of girls actively engaged in sports, as it recognized the importance of offering girls quality basketball instruction. Providing selective opportunities designed specifically for female athletes who want the ultimate training experience is an ongoing priority at NBC Camps.
The 21st century has marked an explosion in terms of girls’ participation in athletics. Today, 130,000 more girls are participating in high school basketball than when NBC Camps was founded. This incredible growth has obviously resulted in more opportunities for females to play the most popular recreational and team sport among youth in America. NBC Camps is committed to offering outstanding service to females at the highest level possible through its individual, team and specialty camps, clinics, tours and other year-round basketball programs. We are continually striving to meet the needs of girls participating in basketball, whether they are just being introduced to hoops or verging on superstar status. NBC Camps’ history includes training many phenomenal players who have since gone on to play at the collegiate level and the WNBA.
