HAVE A STRONGER SELF-ESTEEM

Learn balance.  Some people spend too much time on their physical appearance.  This over focus creates a need for compliments and attention.   Too much time and concern over how you look can actually lower your self esteem when you don’t receive the recognition you think you should or when you do receive attention, it can create a spirit of haughtiness.   Looking good can become an obsession.

If you’re a person who tends to over focus on your looks, limit you time in front of the mirror.  Discipline yourself to not think about how you look once you leave the mirror.  Work on spending time becoming an attractive person on the inside.

Some students spend too little time on their physical appearance.  They appear not to care about how they look, they avoid making an effort, and often take pride in their lack of care.

If you’re a person who has little value for your personal appearance and have cut off attempts at dressing in a flattering way, find a good mentor who can help you discover ways to be more attractive.  Find out why you feel you need to sabotage your looks.

Learn modesty.  Modesty means dressing, speaking, behaving and acting in a respectable, decent, and appropriate manner.  When you dress, speak or act in a way that is immodest you devalue yourself.  You are saying you need attention.  Modesty is difficult in this day and age where everyone is striving to be noticed.  Dressing modestly doesn’t mean ugly, boring, or old-fashioned.  It means to dress in a way that honors yourself and others. Girls should remember, In the long run, getting noticed for your inner as well as outer beauty will be much more valuable than getting immediate attention from displaying too much of yourself. Guys should remember, being a person of character is more important than trying to appear cool. Trying to be cool is always a futile effort.

Girls have a tendency to let their attractiveness rest on whether or not  they have a boyfriend.  A boyfriend can become a bad external validation for needing to feel like an attractive person.  Having a serious boyfriend or girlfriend before college is a recipe for problems.  A serious boyfriend or girlfriend often takes time away from important events such as sports, school, music, building quality female relationships, character development, faith and fun.  Having a serious boyfriend can also create a need to get physically intimate too soon which will destroy your sense of worth.
