Coach Dawn Barnes brings a wealth of experience and an undeniable passion for volleyball to every athlete she works with. As the new Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Southern, she arrives with a stellar track record of success at the collegiate, club, and national levels.

Most recently, Coach Barnes led Phoenix College and the Arizona Storm Elite VBC, where her team earned a top-10 regional finish and a bid to the USAV Nationals. Her coaching journey includes leadership positions at South Carolina State, Malcolm X Junior College, and Chicago State, where she made history by securing the program’s first-ever Division I home tournament victory and mentoring 10 Academic All-WAC honorees.

With additional coaching experience at Howard, George Mason, and Pittsburgh, Barnes has worked with conference players of the year, national qualifiers, and some of the nation’s top collegiate athletes. Her commitment to volleyball extends beyond the court—she serves as a coach at the USA HP Developmental Camps and is an active member of the AVCA, helping to shape the future of the sport.
