Parenting Significance

Parenting tips nbc camps significant parenting

There is nothing to explain the deep love you have as a parent for your child. No explanation can prepare you. Just like you can’t imagine loving someone as much as your kid, it’s hard to understand why parenting is tough. To those without kids, it seems obvious and easy-- You have a child, and you teach that child what you want them to learn such as a foreign language before he or she turns eight. You only feed them healthy foods, you connect them with the best teachers and the top programs, and they naturally turn out way better than you imagined. Then you have a child. You see that your child doesn’t want to speak Spanish or eat organic broccoli. This is where parenting requires us to step up our game. One of the biggest areas we need to step up is the deep desire to brag about our kids. The race for the most accomplished child is an ugly and lonely road.

Step out of this rat race by finding significance in everyday moments. Hold your child’s hand. Smell the indescribable delicious scent of rosy cheeks. Find joy in the mistakes and find meaning and life lessons in the second-place trophies. Driven parents often produce underachievers.

As you read this, however, do not assume NBC Camps champions mediocre living. NBC Camps's leadership believes that significance is found in the dedication to building the intangible qualities of each student: grit, mental toughness, resilience, gratitude, spiritual faith, compassion, leadership, listening, and wisdom.

If you focus on developing these intangible qualities, your parenting will be significant and your children will lead significant lives.
