How Do You Impact Your Team?
Every athlete wants to contribute. We want to play, make an impact, and help our team succeed. But contribution isn't measured only by points, minutes, or stats.
Every athlete has the ability to impact their team. The question is: What kind of impact will you have?
It starts with your attitude. You won't always love your role, your playing time, or how a game is going. But you can choose how you respond. Bring a positive attitude, stay engaged, and be coachable. Your teammates are watching how you respond when things don't go your way.
Bring effort and energy every day. Run hard in drills, compete, communicate, and defend with intensity. Chase loose balls. Encourage your teammates. You may not control everything that happens during a game, but you can control the energy and effort you bring to it.
Celebrate others. When a teammate makes a great play, celebrate with them. When someone works hard and improves, recognize it. When they succeed, be genuinely excited for them. Great teams are made up of players who want to see each other succeed.
Be an encourager and a motivator. Everyone has moments when they struggle, get frustrated, or lose confidence. Be the teammate who picks someone up, brings energy when the team needs it, and reminds others to keep going.
And most importantly, make the people around you better. Your influence doesn't depend on how many minutes you play. It comes from the way you practice, the way you respond to adversity, the way you treat your teammates, and the example you set every day.
So don't just ask, “How am I doing?”
Ask yourself: “What am I bringing to my team?”
Your role may change, your playing time may change, and your statistics may change.
But you always have the ability to bring positive effort, energy, encouragement, attitude, and leadership.
